European Ladies Club Trophy
Balaton Golf Club, Hungary, will host Europe's national champion golf clubs for the 19th edition of the European Ladies' Club Trophy from Thursday to Saturday this week.
17 teams consisting of three players each will compete over three rounds of stroke play in a bid to crown their clubs as this year's European champions.
To qualify for the event, teams must win their respective national championships in the same calendar year, with only one spot available per country.
The format is as follows: The two lowest of of the teams' three scores each day will count towards their overall aggregate score, meaning after three days, six scores will constitute the teams' final totals.
Hamburger Golf Club return as defending champions. The German club came out on top at Pravets Golf Club last year. After finishing with the same total as RNCGSS Basozabal, 12-under-par, Hamburger were awarded the title by having the lowest total of non-counting scores (+8 compared with Basozabal's +48).
Two other former-champion clubs are participating this year. Five-times winners, St. Leon-Rot of Germany, and Danish club, Smorum, the 2013 champions, have also qualified this year.
Paula Schulz-Hanssen is the top-ranked player in the field this week. The St. Leon-Rot player, who is currently ranked 120th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, won the European Young Masters earlier this year, and recently represented Europe in the PING Junior Solheim Cup.
